In my opinion, gender equality is not only about equal rights, equal access to education, equal opportunity in employment, or balanced income distribution between women and men or so. For me gender equality means not judging people for their gender. Free your mind and the rest will follow.

Ik zou zeggen, zelf vrouw zijnde, dat gelijkheid in geslacht er pas zal zijn als we als gelijken worden behandeld op elk mogelijk niveau. Vooraleer we dit optimaal niveau kunnen bereiken… moeten er eerst nog grote veranderingen gebeuren. Niet alleen op vlak van sommige culturele gewoontes of stereotypen die we leerden als kind. Het feit dat in een perfect democratisch land als België, het nog steeds mogelijk is dat mannen meer verdienen voor dezelfde job als ons, dat mannen de enigen zijn waar er een openbaar toilet voor voorzien wordt… Zegt ons genoeg over het werk dat ons nog te wachten staat alvorens we een evenwicht kunnen bereiken.
I would consider, being a woman myself, that equality with a man would be when we are treated the same way on every single level. But before we can reach this supreme level… some big change needs to happen. Not only in some cultural habits that we are so used to, or stereotypes that we all learn when we are a child. The fact that in a perfectly democratic country as Belgium it is still possible that only men get public toilets, that men earn more to do the same job as us, …. Say that we still have some work left before we can speak of an equilibrium.
